Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a surgery where breast implants are placed to increase breast size and projection. This surgery is very popular with women who are born with small breasts, or women who have lost breast projection and volume due to pregnancy. This surgery helps patients achieve full, youthful looking breasts.
The implants are either placed under the muscle or under the gland depending upon the amount of skin the patient has in her breast and the breast position that we want to achieve. Incisions are made under the nipple, under the breast, or sometimes through the armpit. Implants are made of silicon or saline. The newest implants are made of a silicone compound that is similar in texture to gummy bears.
A breast lift can be performed at the same time if there is too much skin in the breast. This helps transform the excess skin of the breast into an internal push-up brassiere that keeps the upper part of the breast full and youthful. The nipple can also been moved back into its natural position if needed. This surgery is especially useful for patients who had children making it part (with a tummy tuck) of a mommy makeover.
Breast augmentation and lift patients are amongst the happiest in plastic surgery. My practice combines artistry and experience to help you obtain your goal of better breasts.
Breast Reduction
Breast reduction excellent surgery for patients that have back, neck, and shoulder pain due to large breasts. The pain gets worse the older the patient gets. This frequently can lead to shoulder strapping as the bra straps dig into the person’s shoulders causing deep grooves. These patients also have enlarged nipples and areolas that sag due to the weight of their breasts.
The goal of breast reduction is to reduce the weight of the breasts, raise the nipples back to their natural position, and lift the remaining breast tissue to give a more natural, well balanced appearance in and out of clothes.
Therefore, during this surgery, the nipple and areola are reduced down to a normal size. The nipple is kept attached to the chest wall muscles so the nerves and blood supply are preserved. Then, breast tissue is taken out from around the nipple. This assures that the weight of the breast is reduced while keeping the nipple alive. A breast lift with dissolvable sutures is performed using the remaining skin. Then the nipple is brought out at it’s natural position.
Recovery time is about a week. The patient wears a front opening bra without underwire or a sports bra for 3-6 weeks after the surgery. The relief of the pain around the neck, shoulder and back make breast reduction patients amongst the happiest patients in my practice.
